A. For the purpose of this title, unless it is clearly evident from the context that a different meaning is intended, certain words and terms are as defined in this chapter.

B. Words not defined in this chapter shall be as defined in other city and state codes, the Bellingham Municipal Code, Washington Administrative Code, or the Revised Code of Washington. Words not found in any of the previously listed sources shall be as defined in the Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, latest edition.

C. The present tense includes the future and the future includes the present. The singular number includes the plural and the plural includes the singular.

D. Variances from these definitions shall not be granted.

E. “May” is permissive and “shall” is mandatory.

F. “Lot” includes “plot,” “parcel,” “tract” or “site.” [Ord. 2018-12-036 § 2 (Exh. A)].
